OMCA joins TIAC's initiative to open the Canada-U.S. border

OMCA has joined the Tourism Industry Association of Canada’s initiative to push for a proper border reopening plan. The U.S.-Canada border has been closed since March 2020. With more and more people getting vaccinated in both countries, and things returning to normal, it's time to start reopening the border so that Canadians and Americans can cross the border freely and businesses can get back to work. We are pleased to announce that Ray Cherrey will be joining the OMCA team as our Safety and Regulatory Affairs Strategist on Monday, June 14th! Ray will work with MTO and other government departments to inform policy decision and educate them on the day-to-day realities of our industry and businesses. He will also support OMCA’s government advocacy activities. Most of you will recognize Ray as the recent Chair of the OMCA Board of Directors during his time with Pacific Western Transportation. He has had a long career in the transportation industry, both in his family business Cherrey Bus Lines and most recently with P.W. Transportation Ltd. Ray has significant ground operational management experience and has been part of the OMCA family for many years. Please join us is giving him a warm welcome!

Motor Coach Canada and American Bus Association send a letter to national leaders on reopening the CAN-US Border

As part of Motor Coach Canada's advocacy work on border reopening, MCC president, Vince Accardi, co-authored a letter with Peter J. Pantuso, the President & CEO of the American Bus Association, calling on both governments to open the border to all modes of transportation including motor coach travel. This letter was sent to both the Canadian and US governments on June 9th and we are hopeful that the added pressure from the US administration will help move Canada along. Click to read the letter.

Fully vaccinated Canadians, permanent residents can soon skip hotel stay: Hajdu

The federal government says fully vaccinated Canadians and permanent residents crossing the border into Canada will soon no longer be required to stay at a hotel for part of their quarantine period.
Health Minister Patty Hajdu said the government is hoping to ease some restrictions in stages, starting in early July.

With talk of the of the CEWS and CERS support programs coming to an end, the federal government can’t also keep the Canada-US border closed, says the Tourism Industry Association of Canada. “It can’t be both ways; either continue to support tourism businesses... or start reopening the border so that businesses can get back to work,” says TIAC president Beth Potter.
