The Ontario Government has moved forward
with changes to the Travel Industry Act.
Effective July 1, 2016, the act has been changed to:
Exempt businesses that exclusively offer one-day tours from the requirements of the
Act.
Change the security deposit and working capital requirements to provide some
flexibility for lower risk businesses that are closely tied to government (essentially
DMOs).
Align the filing deadline for regular claims and trip completion claims at six months.

Parkinson Coach Lines patriarch George Edward Murray passed away peacefully at his home in Wasaga on Saturday, June 11, with family by his side.
George had a lifetime in the bus industry — he started as an apprentice mechanic at 14 with his dad's company Roseland Coach Lines. In 1955 George and his brother Roy bought Parkinson Coach Lines, which had just one bus. They built the business securing school contracts, original Brampton Town Bus Service and a thriving Seniors Tour Charter business from the 70s to late 90s. Health issues forced his retirement in 2000 where George continued to serve and volunteer at the Seniors Community of Wasaga Beach. George will be lovingly remembered by his children Jamie & Lynn Matthews-Murray, his four grandchildren — Scott and David Murray, Taylor and MacKenzie Matthews, and all his extended family and friends in Wasaga.

It's a small task that millions of people perform every day, by dropping coins in a fare box, flashing a transfer to a bus operator, or tapping a Presto card at the subway turnstile.
But with plans afoot to change how, and how much, transit riders in the Toronto region pay for public transit, the fate of that simple gesture is looking very complicated.

The number of people who say they've used a travel agent to book a trip has rebounded slightly in recent years, and increased interest from millennials in agents may have contributed.
In the last year, 22 per cent of Americans from households earning more than $50,000 booked travel through a travel agent, an increase from 14 per cent just three years ago, according to new research from the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA). Millennials are more likely to use an agent than any demographic group of older travelers, surprisingly.

Sixteen pedestrians have been killed on Toronto streets in 2016.
That's 16 more people than John Tory would like. His aim is to bring those pedestrian fatalities to a halt, with zero by 2021.
But Toronto has some ground to make up when it comes to pedestrian safety measures. Cities across Europe, North America and the Caribbean are already working toward complete pedestrian safety with Vision Zero, a Swedish program to eliminate road deaths.
