Chinese demand for Canadian holidays is helping to fuel a tourism renaissance in this country after a lengthy lull that began following the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
This year, China became the second largest source of visitors to Canada behind the U.S. Almost 70,000 Chinese nationals entered Canada last March, according to seasonally adjusted numbers. The U.K., which held the No. 2 spot for three decades, fell to third.

Environment Minister Catherine McKenna says transport trucks and school buses built after 2020 will have to be more efficient and produce fewer greenhouse gases.
New regulations require improved technology to make engines more efficient and trailers hauled by heavy trucks easier to pull, all with an aim of reducing fuel-consumption and cutting tailpipe emissions by about 25 per cent per vehicle.

Without any debate, members of the finance committee approved a new accommodation tax, which will see a levy put on hotel and motel rooms in the city.
The new tax on the city's 2,000 hotel rooms is expected to bring in $1.7 million in 2019, half of which will be used to finance tourism initiatives, with the other half helping to pay the mortgage on the $100 million arena planned for the Kingsway. The tax should raise about $425,000 for the balance of 2018.
