OMCA President's Update: June 25th
OMCA
Last week the government announced the first steps to reopening the Canadian border. This move was welcomed and long-overdue, but it falls far short of the comprehensive plan that OMCA and many other associations have been calling for. We will continue to advocate for a transparent plan with clear benchmarks to reopen the border. OMCA is disappointed that the government hasn’t provided clear benchmarks for border reopening to our members and Canadians. We will continue to add pressure and insist that we have a plan. Both the Federal and Ontario governments look to kick off their summer breaks this week under speculations that they may not return before federal elections are called. With the continued traction and ramping up of the vaccination rollout over the summer, legislators will be spending the next few months reconnecting with constituents in their ridings on the BBQ circuit. This refers to the summer activities of Canadian politicians during the breaks from parliament and the provincial legislatures, and involves attending many community events to meet constituents...

This portal is found on the homepage of www.omca.com and we hope that all tour ops and suppliers are able to fully take advantage of it!

Destination Canada research
Destination Canada
The Canadian visitor economy is facing unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We know that research is required to guide our collective response so we can make evidence-based decisions. The research will quantify the impacts of COVID-19 on an ongoing basis — check back often for updated products. It will help us understand when recovery will start and how effectively and quickly we are recovering to inform our go-forward marketing. It also seeks to understand the non-quantifiable effects, such as structural changes in tourism and lasting changes in consumer preferences.

What to know about relaxed travel measures for fully vaccinated Canadians
CTV News
Relaxed travel rules for fully vaccinated Canadians may make visiting the United States easier for some, but uncertainly around travelling with unvaccinated children is already causing frustration for others, travel experts say.
The federal government still advises against non-essential travel — either by land or by air — to U.S. and international destinations, and the land border closure was recently extended to July 21. By and large, the public has complied.

Trudeau says AstraZeneca recipients will 'not be disadvantaged' when they travel

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said today his government is working with the U.S. and other international partners to ensure that AstraZeneca vaccine recipients face few barriers when they travel abroad.
Trudeau's commitment comes at a time when some U.S. venues are already suggesting they will only allow people who've been fully vaccinated with a United States Food and Drug Administration-approved product — the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines — to attend certain events unencumbered.

THE ORIGINAL ORIGINAL: New mark identifies authentic Indigenous tourism locations
Travel Industry Today
The Indigenous tourism industry will now be able to help guide tourists to genuine, culturally appropriate Indigenous tourism destinations with a designated mark, called The Original Original, just in time for summer.
The campaign aims to educate travellers, modernize their perception of Indigenous experiences and rebuild the industry, which was disproportionately devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting lockdown and sanitary measures, which have gutted the tourism industry over the last year and change, the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada’s CEO said last week.
