OMCA
We need you to write to the Premier and your local MPP to ask them to support OMCA’s request that the Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries provide support for tour operators and coach operators as we emerge from the COVID-19 economic shutdown. While it is clear that there will be no new support coming to help cover the economic losses suffered by every sector of the economy, the government is in the process of putting in place programs and policies to help “prime the pump” to support sectors in recovery get the economy moving again. They have turned to making strategic investments in measures that will support re-opening and a return to normal. Read more about our two-part program pitch and get involved today!

Update your member profile with the best contact person during COVID-19 so that we know who to call. July 10th is the last day to update your profile before OMCA prints the annual Membership Directory. If your primary representative is currently furloughed, we strongly recommend changing the primary to someone that can be contacted now until next summer. The online directory can be updated at any time to reflect returning staff members, though the printed directory should be as accurate as possible for the long term. Access your directory listing through the Member Portal at www.omca.com.

OMCA will soon be launching a resource for members to find information on the state of reopening and COVID-19 measures being taken by destinations across North America. Member DMOs will have a chance to provide details on what is open, what the maximum group sizes are, the safety and public health protocols and the current recovery efforts in their area. This tool is to help tour operators and other travellers get the details on a destination to assist with their group travel planning. Stay tuned for more details.

Well that didn’t last long. Profits outweigh pandemic health fears as airlines get ready to pack passengers in again. Canada’s two largest airlines are ending their on-board seat distancing policies starting July 1, raising health concerns amid a pandemic that has devastated the travel industry. Air Canada earlier blocked the sale of adjacent seats in economy class, and WestJet has done the same throughout the entire plane, to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The European Union will reopen its borders to travellers from 14 countries, and possibly China soon, the bloc announced recently, but most Americans have been refused entry for at least another two weeks due to soaring coronavirus infections in the US.
As Europe’s economies reel from the impact of the coronavirus, southern EU countries like Greece, Italy and Spain are desperate to entice back sun-loving visitors and breathe life into their damaged tourism industries. Airbnb co-founder Brian Chesky talked about the future of travel in a recent CNBC interview. He stated: "Travel, as we knew it, is over. More than 20,000 people have taken the online quiz "How Do Your Time Management Skills Stack Up?" And we know that a significant majority say that they're "frequently stuck in meetings that are not productive or an efficient use of everyone's time."
Why are meetings feeling so unproductive right now? First, with mass numbers of people working remotely, there are a lot more meetings. Second, most of us are feeling a bit of Zoom fatigue. And third, because of those first two factors, lots of meeting participants are disengaged, zoning-out or multitasking (e.g., checking emails while they're on a virtual meeting).
