On top of the “staycation” tax credit that covers a portion of hotel or other accommodation costs, some local tourism organizations are offering gas cards or discounted hotel stays — Ottawa has a “stay two nights, get one free” offer — the lifting of many COVID travel restrictions has helped bring travellers back.

Ottawa admits some travellers were incorrectly told to quarantine due to ArriveCAN app glitch
CBC News
Ottawa says that due to a glitch with the ArriveCAN entry app, some travellers who recently entered Canada were sent erroneous notifications instructing them to quarantine.
The admission comes at a time when the federal government is facing mounting pressure from politicians and tourism groups to scrap the COVID-19 screening tool, arguing it impedes tourism and creates headaches for some travellers.

Great Northern Ontario Roadshow stops in Sudbury
CTV News
The Great Northern Ontario Roadshow was an idea that came about at the beginning of the pandemic.
“We said what if we leveraged the power of what we do at Science North to bring communities together to really start to bring back tourism at a hyper local level and then a regional level and that’s really what we’ve been able to deliver this summer is visiting communities bringing vendors, tourism operators, culinary organizations together to remind people the amazing things that are right in their own backyard,” says Ashley Larose of Science North.

New national parks res system causes headaches for tour operators
Travel Weekly
A well-intended measure to promote sustainability at U.S. national parks is backfiring for the tour operators that offer those destinations.
The reservation system, introduced at some of the most popular national parks earlier this year, often only allows bookings to be made within a few days or even hours of a park visit. It was designed to limit high visitor volume and better preserve natural resources.
