OMCA
With a brief shower to welcome us, the 47th Annual OMCA Golf Tournament picked up where the rain left off and we had a great day out at Legends On The Niagara. Thank you to all of our golfers, members and guests, volunteers, sponsors and prize donors who participated in making our annual tournament another great summer event.
Thanks to the support we received, we raised $2,195 through the sales of our raffle tickets and the putting contest. The funds will go to the Mary Lynn Higgins Youth Fund, which provides opportunities for disadvantaged youth to join their classmates on school trips.
It was great having you all join us this week and we look forward to seeing you again next year!

Applications have opened for the next round of the Connecting Links program for new projects starting in spring 2018. Connecting links are municipal roads or bridges that connect two ends of a provincial highway through a community or to a border crossing.

Federal officials recently announced the opening of the new Big Chaudière Dam, located downstream of Lake Nipissing and along the French River near North Bay.
The Big Chaudière Dam is one of three dams that control the outflow from Lake Nipissing. It is essential for maintaining the lake's water level and for regulating the flow of water into the 105-kilometre-long French River. Public Services and Procurement Canada says the new dam complex will ensure that the tourism industry in and around the French River will continue to attract people from across Canada.

It's time to fix Ontario's flawed system of measuring and taxing accommodations.
The current system provides a completely inadequate assessment of whether we're attracting more tourists, more often. It's also a system that penalizes legitimate businesses hanging a sign out front, and rewards those who operate in obscurity.

Imagine losing your smartphone or leaving your laptop behind on a train or bus. How much could someone learn about you — your interests, your lifestyle, your habits — based on what they could access on the device?
What conclusions could someone make when the photos you've taken, the apps you've installed and the websites you've visited are laid bare?
According to the Supreme Court of Canada: Quite a few.
Unlike a briefcase or a filing cabinet, judges have found, a smartphone can contain "immense amounts of information" that touch a person's "biographical core."
