Marketplace 3-D Registration Open
OMCA
OMCA has been working hard to bring a hybrid experience to our 2021 Virtual Marketplace and are delighted to announce that registration is now open for our 3-D (in-person) sessions on November 3rd. Registration is $99 per person and includes three live education sessions on the new norm of the tourism industry, the innovations that have risen from the pandemic, and what cross-border travel looks like in North America. We will cap it all off with a social networking cocktail hour! This is a separate registration from the virtual appointments on Nov. 1 & 2 and is open to all members – whether you are attending the virtual Marketplace or not. Update from the OMCA President
OMCA
I had the pleasure of meeting the association team, and a few of our members in person this week. It was great to get away from my home office in Ottawa and away from Zoom meetings even if it was for only a few days. Traveling from Ottawa to Toronto and back reaffirmed to me that the motor coach industry and our beloved tourism sector is not out of the woods. The highways were void of coaches and our city centres didn’t have the normal buzz of visitors. This was a visual reminder of why we need to connect with our federal election candidates and ask them to support our sector. I’d like to ask you, our members, to commit reaching out to your local candidates this week. These candidates need to continue to hear about your business’ realities, they need to understand the affects that lockdowns and on-going restrictions have had on your businesses. We need to ensure that they support ongoing business subsidies into the summer of 2022. Please visit our associations website for the meeting and communications tools to help you align your messages. Thank you for your ongoing support for the association. Your memberships fuel our advocacy efforts.

COVID-19 vaccination passport
Quebec
The COVID-19 vaccination passport will be a free official document showing that the holder is protected against COVID-19. It will make it possible for businesses to stay open.
With a vaccine passport, people age 13 and up who are adequately protected or who have a clinical contraindication to COVID-19 vaccination can gain admittance to certain locations and certain non-essential activities where the risk of transmission is high. These include events and festivals, performance halls and sports arenas, casinos, cinemas, fitness centres, team sports, bars, restaurants, and certain extracurricular activities.

The movement towards mandatory vaccines in Canada
HR Reporter
On July 16, 2021, we wrote a post outlining what employers should consider before implementing mandatory vaccination in their workplaces. As we noted, the question of whether or not an employer can require employees to get vaccinated will depend on a number of factors, including the need to balance health and safety with employee privacy and an employer’s duty to accommodate.

US fully approves Pfizer: Vaccine given 'strongest endorsement'
Travel Industry Today
More than 200 million Americans (and perhaps some Canadians) can breathe easier with news that the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine they have received is now fully approved for used by the US Food and Drug Administration. Perhaps more importantly, the status upgrade from “emergency use authorization” in the US (it has been approved in Canada) is expected to spur wary individuals to finally get the shot as the delta variant continues to surge.

As the coronavirus pandemic drags on and the highly contagious Delta variant continues to spread, more and more companies in the travel industry are requiring their staff and guests to show proof of vaccination. Major airlines, restaurants, and even some hotels are enacting policies aimed at keeping their employees and customers safe—and keeping their lights on.

How a database unites destinations through their street art
PCMA
When the COVID-19 pandemic first made its way around the world in 2020, a group of researchers from the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis started working on a database of pandemic-related street art. But when George Floyd was killed in their city and a new wave of the Black Lives Matter movement was sparked, the database created by Todd Lawrence, Ph.D., Paul Lorah, Ph.D., and Heather Shirey, Ph.D., took on a new purpose.
