Update from OMCA President
OMCA
This week Ontario joined other Provinces and announced the implementation of an Enhanced Vaccination Certification starting on September 22nd. The association participated a pre briefing and confirmed that Ontarians and visitors will need to be fully vaccinated (required doses plus 14 days) and show their proof of vaccination along with photo ID to access certain public settings and facilities as of September 22nd. On October 22nd, the Province will move to a digital system to demonstrate proof of vaccination. This approach focuses on indoor public settings and includes:
- Restaurants and bars (indoors and excludes outdoor patios and takeout)
- Nightclubs
- Meetings and event spaces
- Sporting, recreation and fitness facilities and events (except for youth recreational sport)
- Casinos and gaming establishments
- Concerts, festivals and theatres and cinemas
Out of Province and International visitors should be encouraged to contact their local health units to receive proper documentation and have it ready during their visit to the province.
Unfortunately, these requirements will not affect the current capacity limits set out in Ontario’s reopening plan nor will it apply to business employees. The government is still encouraging businesses to create a vaccination policy for their staff.
The association and our advocacy partners will continue to push for the lifting of capacity limits and the use of science-based data to inform government policies. We continue to ask that governments align their proof of vaccination policies and the technology used for verification. Until this this alignment occurs, please ensure you print or have a PDF version of our vaccination available with traveling.

Ontario reinstating renewal requirements for driver's licences, licence plate stickers and health cards
Ontario News
Heavy commercial vehicle owners will need to renew their vehicle validations by Dec. 31, 2021. People who have not renewed their products during the Extended Validity period will be required to pay the fee for previous years, in addition to the current year renewal fee. Announcement is found here.
OMCA advocated to MTO to wave the retroactive collection of licence plate fees for parked vehicles that have not made revenue during this period and our voices were heard. The MTO website states: If you choose to pay the Ontario portion of the IRP fees through the payment plan, more information on how to pay the deferred IRP renewal fees will be available by early 2022. If you did not operate your vehicle(s) after your expiry date and during the extension period, you may apply for an exemption. Non-operating vehicles will be removed from the renewal. You will need to complete a declaration and advise the IRP clerk at the time of renewal, so fees can be adjusted. You will be required to supply supporting documentation and may be subject to an audit of your facilities at the ministry’s discretion.
