.ASSOCIATION NEWS
Update from the OMCA President
As we prepare for a busy fall travel season, the association is looking forward to and planning for 2023 and beyond.
We have submitted our priorities to the Government of Canada for the development of a new Federal Tourism Growth Strategy and are pleased to see that many of our national and provincial partners aligned without asks for industry support. As governments return from the summer break, we are focused on educating officials on our industry’s recovery and the aid our members require to fully recover from the effects of the pandemic on their businesses. Please take a moment to download our submission and share it with the
MP in your riding.
As we turn to
2022 Marketplace we are encouraged by the excitement of our event sponsors and by those members that have registered early for this event. Our theme this year is REINTRODUCE YOURSELF! With the changes our industry has faced, it is time we get back together and learn about new attractions, and destination incentives and reconnect with long-time representatives or meet those that are new to our industry. With the support of the Government of Ontario, OMCA has introduced a new Buyer Incentive program. Please connect with our team at info@omca.com to learn more about this incentive and how to participate in Marketplace. Thank you to all members who have supported our advocacy by renewing or rejoining our association. Should you have any questions about our advocacy please connect with me at vince@omca.com .

Auditor's review causes city to rethink how it will buy electric buses
CBC
A report from Ottawa's auditor general has caused the city to change its plans to switch to electric buses: from issuing its own request for proposals (RFP) to partnering with the City of Toronto.
Last summer the city announced a $1 billion plan to purchase 450 electric buses for OC Transpo's fleet by 2027 that included only buying zero-emission buses from that point on.

Tripadvisor begins letting US and Canadian hotels and restaurants self-identify as woman- or black-owned and more
Skift
Tripadvisor began letting some hotels in the U.S. and Canada self-identify in their business listings if they are woman owned, Black owned or Asian owned, for example.
Other categories include Disability owned, Hispanic/Latinx owned, Indigenous owned, LGBTQIA+ owned, and Veteran owned.
Tripadvisor doesn't verify whether indeed the business is at least 51% owned — which is the criteria — by that group. That's similar to its approach to user reviews.
