Update from the OMCA President
OMCA
Election Day is almost here! Thank you to all our members that have supported our Federal Election grassroots campaign and written or met with your candidates. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed. With your support, our association and the Hardest Hit Coalition members have been making waves as we continue to press candidates to prioritize additional support measures for the industry. The association has also sent letters to all party leaders and each candidate in all ridings. Since the election campaign started, we have successfully secured commitments from all political parties. (Although they vary in approach, it’s a win).
I’ll be monitoring the election results carefully to determine our association’s Federal advocacy strategies moving forward. We have also secured the advocacy support of Impact Public Affairs in Ottawa to assist us in our government advocacy efforts at the Provincial and Federal levels. The results of the election are anyone’s guess however it’s your opportunity to have your voice heard by casting your ballot. If you didn’t vote in an advanced poll or by mail-in ballot, please make it a priority to go out and vote.

Mixed opinions to federal government's border policy during pandemic
St Catharines Standard
While many people saw the closure of the Canada-U.S. land border to non-essential travel as necessary to combat the spread of COVID-19 in March 2020, some have criticized the federal government’s handling of the issue during the past 18 months.
Despite Canada reopening the border to fully vaccinated Americans Aug. 9, and to the rest of the world Sept. 7, restrictions led to the separation of family and friends, and negatively impacted businesses that depend on cross-border commerce.

What a travel journalist wants you to know before you book your next vacation
Refinery29
An ice-cold cocktail under a palm tree on a Caribbean beach was always a good idea. But after 18 months without travel, it’s now what dreams are made of. Literally dreams for most people, as Canada still has a non-essential international travel advisory in place and we’re in the middle of a fourth COVID wave. But as the government and the travel industry take a stronger stance on vaccinations (Air Canada recently announced that all employees must be vaccinated by October 30 and the federal government has said eventually all air and rail passengers will also need to prove vaccination), the possibility of travel is making a comeback.
