October P.R.I.D.E. Program sold out

A very high demand for the Oct. 19-24 P.R.I.D.E. Program this year has it completely filled at this time. A waiting list has been started. The next regularly scheduled program is Jan. 11-16, 2015. If you are interested in attending a Fall program e.g. in November or early December 2014, please contact Michele O'Bright — mobright@telus.net. If enough registration forms are received (minimum 11), the P.R.I.D.E. Program would be pleased to try and put on an additional program.

Highway 7 Viva Bus Rapid Transit Service opens in City of Markham

Steven Del Duca, Ontario Minister of Transportation; Michael Chan, MPP Markham-Unionville; Bill Fisch, Chairman and CEO, The Regional Municipality of York; and Bruce McCuaig, President and CEO, Metrolinx, officially marked the opening of the next segment of bus rapid transit (rapidway) that will run in the centre median of Highway 7 in the City of Markham.
Viva rapid transit service extended its use of the rapidway along Highway 7 from Highway 404 to South Town Centre Blvd.
John Tory: 'Hell to pay' if Ontario, feds don't provide transit funding

Toronto mayoralty frontrunner John Tory says "there will be hell to pay" if senior levels of government don't come up with two-thirds of the funding needed for his proposed rapid transit line.
"I have the determination to go to those governments, I have the relationships with both of those governments to go and get that money," Tory said recently.
500 GO buses means better service for riders

Ontario is helping more commuters take public transit and get to their destination sooner as Metrolinx rolls out its 500th GO Bus.
GO Transit now has a total of 500 buses on the road, serving commuters in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). The fleet is made up of 117 double-decker buses, 381 diesel-highway coaches, and two diesel-electric hybrid highway coaches.

Highway 404 extension set to open
Government of Ontario
Ontario is opening a 13-kilometre extension on Highway 404 from Green Lane to Ravenshoe Road that will make it faster to travel into and out of the Greater Toronto Area, reduce congestion, and create jobs by getting people and goods moving.
The new four-lane extension will also take up to 22,000 vehicles a day off local roads, making the community safer while reducing travel times for commuters and commercial vehicles.

Tulip Festival gets honoured by American travel association

The Canadian Tulip Festival's 70th anniversary edition next year got a boost recently when a major North American travel association named it the top Canadian event for 2015 and one of the top 100 events for all of North America. Members of the American Bus Association (ABA) account for the majority of the motor coach tours across the continent.
