School bus operators in Ottawa are facing a shortage of drivers, one they worry will get worse when the provincial minimum wage increases, making other jobs more attractive.
Students who bus to and from schools from Ottawa's English-language boards do so through one of 13 bus companies, who between them run some 700 routes a day, according to the Ottawa Student Transportation Authority, which oversees transportation for those school boards.

Local school boards have fined a school bus company more than $10,000 for the ongoing driver shortage that is still impacting 1,300 students.
Levying the financial penalty is one strategy the boards are implementing to respond to the shortage.
"That unfortunately doesn't fix the problem," said Todd White, chair of the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board.

A detailed design and class environmental assessment have commenced regarding the rehabilitation of six bridges, three structural culverts, 17 non-structural culverts and electrical improvements at various locations along Highway 11 and Highway 12 in the Orillia area. Most of the work is proposed for the Highway 11 corridor through Oro-Medonte Township.
