Canada opens the border to international students

Universities welcome the federal government’s decision to open the border to international students on October 20, as announced by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on Oct. 5.
“York welcomes this development. We are working with the provincial and federal government, as well as other universities to provide a safe return of international students to Canada,” said Yanni Dagonas, deputy spokesperson for York University.

Will a vaccine save travel?

The arrival of a successful vaccine won’t wipe out COVID-19, but individual inoculations will fast-track the recovery of the travel industry, says the head of the University of the West Indies COVID-19 Taskforce.
Whereas Clive Landis says a 90 per cent global inoculation rate will likely be required to curtail the “relatively infectious” COVID-19 (compared to 95 per cent to effectively mitigate measles), the viral disease scientist says, “Let me stress, we can relieve our pain in the tourism sector with much less.”

Canada officially removed from EU's permissible travel list due to rising COVID-19 cases

CBC News reported recently about the expected development after EU officials recommended a change to the list the previous day at a regularly scheduled meeting and sent it down to bureaucratic committees to hash out the details.

Traditional Halloween not recommended in hot spots regions says Ontario's top doctor

Dr. David Williams, the province's chief medical officer of health, said the high transmission of the virus in Toronto, Ottawa, Peel Region and York Region had prompted his recommendation.
