A Toronto school bus driver strike has been averted.
A tentative agreement was reached between the union representing drivers and operator First Student.
If a strike or lockout had occurred, parents of some 18,000 children would have had to come up with alternate transportation.

Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) has launched an investigation related to last January's failure of the Nipigon River Bridge.
"As a regulator, it's our responsibility to investigate any possible engineering practice deficiencies related to the failure and determine if engineering work was carried out by appropriately licensed people and companies," said PEO registrar Gerard McDonald, P. Eng, in a release.

Ontario has opened the next round of permit applications and renewals for Canada's first High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes, which provide another travel option for commuters and help manage congestion.
The HOT lanes are on 16.5 kilometres of the QEW in both directions, from Trafalgar Rd. in Oakville to Guelph Line in Burlington. Vehicles with two or more occupants, or green licence plates, can still travel in the lanes for free, while drivers of single-occupant vehicles can apply to purchase a permit.
