In Memory of Frances Hammond
With great sadness, we are sharing the news that Frances Hammond, mother of OMCA Director of the Board, Greg Hammond, passed away on November 6, 2022. Known as a beautiful, strong, adventurous, funny, trailblazing woman, she and her late husband Orvil built many family businesses together, including what we now know as Hammondbus.com. Online sessions about paid medical leave for federally regulated workplaces – November 15th and 16th
The federal Minister of Labour, Seamus O'Regan Jr., announced that the final regulations on paid sick leave (medical leave with pay) have been registered and made available on Canada.ca. The regulations have been made available online in advance of their official publication in the Canada Gazette, Part II (scheduled for November 23, 2022). This will help stakeholders under federal jurisdiction prepare and make any necessary adjustments. The regulations, along with the legislation, will come into force on December 1, 2022.
You are welcome to join information sessions to learn more about the new legislation, regulatory provisions, and guidance documents prior to the coming into force date of December 1, 2022. No GO bus service Monday as 2,200 transit workers launch first day of strike

Thousands of commuters across much of southern Ontario are scrambling for alternative means of transport after 2,200 GO Transit workers walked off the job Monday.
Workers, including GO bus drivers, station attendants and other employees, took to the picket line outside Toronto's Union Station on the first day of the strike. They walked out after the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1587 and Metrolinx, the operator of regional transit for Greater Toronto and much of the Golden Horseshoe, failed to reach a deal over the weekend.

Indigenous Tourism Ontario announces support for tourism recovery in Ontario

Indigenous Tourism Ontario (ITO) recently announced support for 34 Indigenous tourism businesses and organizations in Ontario to recover from the pandemic, attract visitors and prepare for future growth.
ITO received a $3.5-million non-repayable contribution from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). As part of this investment, ITO delivered $2 million to 23 Indigenous tourism businesses and organizations in the region.

Desjardins: Distracted driving the biggest risk for Canadian drivers

Road use and traffic have returned to almost pre-pandemic levels — as have Canadians’ risky driving behaviours.
For the second year in a row, distracted driving is perceived as the biggest risk factor for drivers (64%) in Desjardins’ 2022 road safety survey. Driving under the influence of alcohol (57%) and drugs (44%), as well as aggressive driving (52%) are the other top risks.
