This fall and winter, drivers will notice some MTO plows and salt trucks (on King's Highways) have new warning lights and signs designed to increase visibility and make them more consistent in appearance. The new standard was developed after in-house testing and industry consultation.

The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) believes the driver of a truck that plowed into a motor coach transporting a Texas college softball team in Oklahoma in 2014, killing four players, was likely high on synthetic marijuana. A blood test on the truck driver however did not confirm he had drugs in his system.

On Nov. 19, Transport Canada issued a Security Advisory to surface transportation system operators and trade associations representing carriers, including OMCA & Motor Coach Canada. The purpose of the advisory is to reiterate the need for transportation providers to remain vigilant of potential or actual security incidents within their operations.

The Ontario government is promising to provide an update on wider implementation of High Occupancy Toll or HOT lanes by the end of the year, but until then is staying mum on its plans.
Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca asked for patience until the details are finalized. The lanes are supposed to be installed on 400-series highways.

Ontario is making travel easier and safer across Northern Ontario by investing $560 million in highway infrastructure projects in 2015-16 through the Northern Highways Program.
As the construction season wraps up, Northern Highway Program projects are adding passing lanes, resurfacing roads, rehabilitating and replacing bridges, and four-laning sections of Highway 69 south of Sudbury and Highway 11-17 east of Thunder Bay.

Premier Kathleen Wynne is defending her government's secret $3.74 million in payments to teacher unions as simply the price of securing labour peace.
In an interview in Beijing at the end of a week-long trade mission in China, Ms. Wynne said the province's negotiations with teachers were "a successful process" and the unions' and government's financial statuses are not "germane to the issue."

Ontarians spent more than $3 million on signs and markers for the 2015 Pan Parapan Am Games high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes that many blame for adding to the GTA's already heavy summer gridlock.
The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) recently released freedom-of-information documents that provide the tally — $306,000 to paint HOV markers onto the pavement, more than $1.9 million on HOV-related signs and another $959,000 to erase and remove the markings.
