Update from the OMCA President
OMCA
The new Omicron variant has caused the global community to revert on progress made in reopening. Many governments including Canada have reintroduced border and on-arrival testing. We will be monitoring the governments response to this virus and continue to advocate for a safe reopening.
This week the association had the opportunity to participate on a transportation panel at the Tourism Industry Association of Canada’s Congress. The discussion was moderated by the Hon. Perrin Beatty, President & CEO, Canadian Chamber of Commerce and included representatives from Air, Rail and finally Motor Coach. The discussions focussed on connecting Canadians and all modes of transportation plus the support our sectors need to survive. I had the pleasure of meeting many MPs from all parties and Ministers at TIAC’s conference including; Minister of Rural Economic Development, Gudie Hutchings and the Minister of Tourism and Associate Minister of Finance, Randy Boissonnault. Both Ministers were very informed on the priority issues of our association and committed to working with the association to help our members recover.
The association joined the Coalition of Hardest Hit Businesses in an open letter to opposition leaders Erin O’Toole, Jagmeet Singh, and Yves-François Blanchet urging them to support and swiftly pass Bill C-2, the proposed legislation that will enact the Tourism and Hospitality and the Hardest Hit Recovery Programs. Last week we had two Members of Parliament stand in the House of Commons to speak to the importance of these support programs to the Motor Coach industry.
Thank you to everyone that have been able to support our association through your membership renewals and supporting our events. This financial contribution allows our association to support our government advocacy work.

Travel Industry Today
To test or not to test... and which kind of test, and to whom should it be given? U.S.-Canadian border rules ease, offering boost to local business
The Wall Street Journal
Beginning Tuesday, Canadians who have spent less than 72 hours in another country will no longer need a Covid-19 test to return to Canada, making it easier and cheaper for residents near the 5,500-mile border to make quick trips to the U.S. to pick up groceries, fill gas tanks or go holiday shopping.
