Members have asked us to see if there is interest in chartering a coach to take us to Cleveland in January for ABA. We will be departing from Toronto (west-end location) with an additional pick-up in Niagara Falls, and then cross the border. Departure is Friday, January 13 at approximately 8:00 a.m., returning from Cleveland on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
The cost would be divided amongst the passengers — the more we have, the better the cost. If you are interested, contact Mardi Schueler at mardi@omca.com or 416-229-6622 x226.
The deadline to book your spot is Dec. 19.

OMCA has been receiving inquiries from members with respect to proper procedures for light rail crossings. Motor coaches must stop at all railway crossings that have a cross-buck. If the railway crossing has flashing lights and/or gates, a motor coach driver does not have to stop prior to proceeding through the crossing. School bus drivers must stop at all railway crossings, regardless of whether or not there are warning devices present.
OMCA encourages members to consider internal policies in the interest of safety.
Members seeking information on railroad crossings in Ontario and the U.S. can find useful information at the following links:

It's rare for a driver to hit a child near a school bus. But Benoit Bourgault knows that too many drivers blow past stopped school buses.
"There is a problem on the street in the region today that puts the lives of the students at risk," said Bourgualt, general manager of the public agency that buses Waterloo students. "It keeps me up at night."
Kitchener-Waterloo school boards propose a $6 million solution, to put traffic cameras on up to 372 school buses to ticket drivers by the thousands. But "we don't have the funding for cameras," Bourgault said.

What's green, about six feet tall, costs as much as a subcompact car, has almost no moving parts and can't perform its simple task roughly 40 per cent of the time? Metrolinx's 75 self-service Presto card reloaders, that's what. They take money from your debit or credit card and put it on your Presto card. That is all they do. They are such unusually simple components of an automated fare system, in fact, that manufacturers Scheidt & Bachmann had to custom-design them, according to Robert Hollis, Metrolinx's executive vice-president in charge of Presto.
