In light of the ever-present pandemic and its monstrous effect on our industry, we are once again offering subscribers the option to opt-out of the run. Ontario moving Toronto and Peel Region into Stage 3

Additional businesses and public spaces will be reopening as the Ontario government allows the City of Toronto and Peel Region to move into Stage 3 of reopening the province on Friday, July 31 at 12:01 a.m. This decision was made in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health and local medical officers of health. It is based on positive local trends of key public health indicators, including lower transmission of COVID-19, ongoing hospital capacity, public health capacity to conduct rapid case and contact management, and a significant increase in testing.

Class action lawsuit by hotels denied COVID coverage

Canadian hotels are the latest group to launch a class action lawsuit resulting from COVID-19 after they were denied insurance coverage for business income lost because of the pandemic. It is seeking $150,000,000 including loss of business income and the accountants’ fees. Each hotel has up to $500,000 of coverage.

Canada Revenue Agency extends tax payment deadline to Sept. 30

Anyone who owes the federal government taxes will now have until the end of September to pay. The Canada Revenue Agency says the payment deadline has been moved to Sept. 30 for individuals, corporations and trusts that had various deadlines through the month.

Ontario elementary students to return to class full-time, hybrid learning for most high schoolers

The Ontario government says come September, elementary students will be in the classroom five days a week while most secondary students will be in at least 50 per cent of the time. “School reopening is critical to learning and development for Ontario’s students, and a critical support for families to get back to work and allow for the re-opening of the economy,” the province said in a document released Thursday detailing the plan on how to reopen public schools this fall amid the coronavirus pandemic.

CFIB calls for commercial rent relief reform

Tourism Barrie releases 18-month recovery plan amid Ontario’s Phase 3 reopening

City reports 5 new cases of COVID-19, lowest since March

Toronto has made "significant progress" in reducing the spread of COVID-19 as the number of new cases, hospitalizations and outbreaks in the city are all decreasing, says the city's medical officer of health. Dr. Eileen de Villa told a city hall news conference on Monday that Toronto has a total of five new cases, the lowest daily case count since March 1. However, 58 infections were also reported over the weekend.
