Turbine business aviation accidents, fatalities drop in 1st quarter

The total combined number of accidents, incidents and fatalities declined for the worldwide U.S. and non-U.S. turbine business-aircraft fleet in the first three months of this year versus the same period last year, according to data compiled by AIN. However, some individual segments were inconsistent with the overall results.

Frontier set to lease maintenance hangar at Denver airport

Frontier Airlines is looking to open a maintenance facility in Denver, potentially bringing jobs back to its hometown that were lost under its previous ownership. A Denver City Council committee recently will consider a five-year, nearly $12.4 million lease with the Denver-based carrier for largely unused Continental hangar space.
Hamad International opens after delays and shows great promise

 Hamad International Airport finally opened its runways to flights recently — more than a year after its first attempt at a soft launch was canceled. Built to eventually replace the aging and inadequate Doha International Airport, Hamad International welcomed its first flight under a water cannon salute shortly before midday. Like most of the neighboring Gulf emirate states, Qatar has experienced a massive growth in aviation as its homegrown airline, Qatar Airways, grew rapidly by offering connecting flights between East and West through its Doha hub.

Delta Private Jets has opened a new 40,000-sq-ft comprehensive maintenance, repair and overhaul facility at its headquarters at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. "Enhancing our maintenance capabilities by gaining FAA certified repair station status represents a growth opportunity for us," John Daly, Delta Private Jets COO, told AIN.
Demand for light business jets improves in 1st quarter

Corporate earnings reports have provided fresh evidence of improving market conditions in the long-depressed light jet segment in the first quarter, but not enough yet to raise deliveries. Textron chief executive Scott Donnelly, who manages Cessna and now Beechcraft, recalled how only a year ago Cessna had to reduce Citation Jet production rates, as all the market signs continued to point to lower demand for small, twin-engined aircraft.
