FAA alters Part 43 preventive maintenance regulations

Federal Aviation Administration officials have amended Part 43 maintenance regulations. FAA officials have removed, from the Part 43 preventive maintenance category, the task of updating databases used in self-contained, front-panel or pedestal-mounted navigation equipment. They have also added text that describes which equipment and, under which conditions, pilots can update aeronautical databases as a non-maintenance function. Equipment not meeting this criteria will continue to be updated as a maintenance function. More

'Complex' avionics certification delays Eurocopter EC175

Eurocopter has released further details on the avionics issues that have caused a six-month certification delay to its in-development EC175 medium twin. Announced on Dec. 12, the deferral of the approval process until mid-2013 means entry-into-service is now pegged for September next year. More

Hiring on schedule for Duluth, Minn., aircraft maintenance base

AAR Aircraft Services' new maintenance base in Duluth, Minn., has been operating less than a month, but 100 new jobs have already been created. That's 100 down, 125 jobs to go. AAR's hiring is on schedule to create 225 jobs within a year to operate three production lines servicing Air Canada's fleet of 89 Airbus A320 jets, according to Dany Kleiman, an AAR Aviation Services Group vice president. American Airlines cutting jobs at Alliance Maintenance Base

Dozens of workers at American Airlines maintenance base at Alliance Airport in Fort Worth, Texas, are losing their jobs. American Airlines says 252 workers are being laid off and over the next few weeks about 700 employees are transferring within the company. The airline said 230 took an early retirement option. More

Office of Governor, The State of Alabama has issued the following news release:
On July 2, one of the largest aircraft manufacturers in the world announced it would be building an aircraft assembly line on Brookley AeroPlex in Mobile, Ala. The Airbus announcement event was a true celebration — with nearly 3,000 guests in attendance — and the cheer from the auditorium could be heard around the world.

An aircraft maintenance company welcomed its first project in Duluth, Minn. recently, and it already brought more than 90 jobs to the area. AAR opened up at the old Northwest Airlines maintenance facility that's been vacant for more than two years. More

Aerotek St. Louis recently held a job fair in Kansas City to recruit more than 100 aircraft mechanics, technicians, inspectors and engineers for a defense contract. More
