On Tuesday, April 21, PBA hosted their annual Legislative Reception. Held at the Federal Taphouse in downtown Harrisburg, PBA members had a chance to mix and mingle with legislators from their personal districts, as well as from across the state.

Grand jury: Kane leaked secret information and lied about it

A Montgomery County judge recently made public a grand jury report that concluded Attorney General Kathleen Kane had leaked secret grand jury information and then lied about it. The grand jury presentment recommends that Kane be charged with perjury, false swearing, abuse of office and obstructing the administration of law.

Homeownership rate falls to lowest since 1993

The national rate of homeownership in the first quarter of 2015 hit the lowest it's been since 1993, which continues an ongoing decline in the rate, the Department of Commerce's Census Bureau announced recently.

29 states lost construction jobs in March
Associated General Contractors of America via For Construction Pros
Even as construction firms added jobs in 41 states between March 2014 and March 2015, construction employment declined in 29 states and the District of Columbia between February and March, according to an analysis of Labor Department data by the Associated General Contractors of America. Association officials cautioned that ongoing D.C. gridlock over how to pay for needed infrastructure improvements and declining demand for oil-related projects likely contributed to so many states shedding construction jobs last month.

Affordable-housing advocates seek tax on flipped properties
The Philadelphia Inquirer
Looking for more money for affordable housing, a coalition of Philadelphia groups wants to tax properties if they are flipped by developers less than two years after they were purchased. The proposal, which its proponents acknowledge has a long road to travel, could contribute up to $12 million annually to the Philadelphia Housing Trust Fund, double the amount there already.

A suburban place to call their own

A common misconception in the wake of the Great Recession is that Americans, particularly millennials, hold different preferences regarding homeownership and a desire to live in the suburbs. This stylized argument claims that the declining homeownership rates of recent years is a reflection of an increased desire to rent, particularly in more urban locations. However, this assertion is at odds with recent survey data that indicate that preferences for homeownership and suburban living remain strong.
