Setting annual sales goals are a waste of time
Promo Marketing
Rick Greene, MAS, is the regional vice president at HALO Branded Solutions. Greene recently was interviewed by Print+ Promo magazine for the Executive Perspectives columns, and he was asked about annual sales goals with his sales force. Print+Promo probably wasn't expecting the answer that Greene gave, though: He has learned over the years that sales goals aren't worth it. Life is unpredictable, and so is business.

This logo is just a bunch of squiggly lines, and it's perfect
Fast Company Design
The U.K.'s Melbourn Squash Club (the sport, not the gourd) has a new logo. Created by Distil Studio, the Melbourn Squash Club's logo was designed to be as abstract as possible. It's just a jumble of squiggly lines. It looks like any kid could have scrawled it in the margin of his Mead notebook during class. And it's the most perfect thing.

NHL wants another pro league to test game jersey advertising first
Promo Marketing
NASCAR drivers have sponsors plastered all over their cars and their uniforms. Professional European soccer and hockey players are covered with ads as well. The NHL may not be next up, but is considering the option. NHL team presidents recently met in New York, but turned down pursuing what could be $120 million in revenue if they were to sell jersey sponsorships, according to TSN, a Canadian sports network. "Gary [Bettman, NHL commissioner,] and owners like the money, but they don't want to be first out of the box with this in North America," a source told TSN. "They'll wait for the NBA or baseball to do it and then be second or third."

Is your small business website like a bad first date?
The Huffington Post
Even if we've been lucky enough to escape the experience ourselves, we've all heard about bad first dates with incredibly self-absorbed people who yammer on endlessly about how great they are: "But enough about me. What do you think of my many accomplishments and erudition?" It's a nightmare scenario most of us wouldn't wish on our worst enemies. So why do so many small business owners subject potential customers to an online version of a bad first date?
