As 2014 comes to a close, PPAMS would like to wish its members, partners and other industry professionals a safe and happy holiday season. 1. New Nashville Sounds logo gets mixed reviews
From Oct. 17: The public reaction to the new Nashville Sounds logo is mixed. It's part of the Triple-A baseball team's re-branding as it moves to First Tennessee Park in April. The team says the new identity pays tribute to Music City by using a guitar pick and the "N" logo stylized from an f-hole on a guitar. Broadway Burnt Orange, Sunburst Tan, Neon Orange and Cash Black make up the club's new official colors. The Sounds are the first professional sports team to use Neon Orange in its color scheme.
2. Flanagan wins PPB Multi-Line Rep of the Year
From Feb 28: Starline is very pleased to announce that Tom Flanagan of Flanagan & Associates was awarded the honor of PPB's Best Multi-Line Reps for 2014. Flanagan & Associates represents Starline in Florida, North and South Carolina, Georgia and Puerto Rico. Tom is a veteran of the promotional products industry with 27 years of experience behind him, and he has spent the last 14 of those years as a multi-line rep for Starline.

From May 9: Behold, people, the glory that is the People/Time White House Correspondents’ Weekend Gift Bag. To call it a mere goodie bag fails to convey the 17.2 pounds of luxury swag presented to guests departing Friday’s cocktail reception. Well, not every guest — White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett attended the party at the St. Regis Hotel, but walked out empty handed due to ethics rules for government officials. “No, no,” she told us. “We can’t accept any gifts. But I’ve heard about it.”
4. Marketers need to address UPS, FedEx rate changes

From June 27: Internet retailers and catalogers whose pricing decisions are influenced by shipping rates need to reassess their shipping strategies in light of UPS's decision to follow FedEx and base U.S. ground rates on the size of packages, according to a shipping industry expert. Under UPS's new rules, if you look at a box that's one cubic foot, you could ship up to 11 pounds inside it using the industry dimensional factor. But if a merchant needs a box that size to ship six pounds, it could cost double what it used to,” says Ursa Major Associates Executive Director Mike Comstock, a 30-year shipping industry veteran who served as SVP of corporate strategy and e-commerce at DHL.
5. Under Armour becomes second largest US apparel brand
From Oct. 10: Baltimore-based sports apparel company Under Armour is moving up in the world. Forbes has reported that Under Armour has surpassed Adidas to become the second-largest apparel brand in the United States. Under Armour reported more than $1.2 billion in sales this year, which is 20 percent more than it reported last year. It represents 14 percent of the U.S. market share.
6. Here's the swag all fans will get at the Super Bowl
From Jan. 24: In anticipation of the New Jersey Super Bowl and the possibility of bad weather, everybody attending this year's big game will receive a seat cushion with an attached gift bag that includes a number of items to help the fans stay warm. Mike Francesa of WFAN in New York City got ahold of one of the Super Bowl seat cushions and revealed all of the items in the bag.

From Feb. 7: Both the Seahawks and the Broncos have already been declared Super Bowl champions on tens of thousands of t-shirts, hats, and other merchandise. That’s how manufacturers fulfill the immediate post-game demand for fan gear — by making it ahead of time, long before knowing which team will come out on top. 9. What your logo's color says about your company
From April 4: When it comes to identifying your brand, your logo is probably the first thing your customers will think of. While honing the narrative and message behind your logo should of course be your primary concern, research suggests that your logo’s design — and specifically its colors — have more bearing on your customers’ opinions than you might think. Neuroscientist Bevil Conway, who has focused his recent research almost entirely on the neural machinery behind color, believes the science behind color processing to be very powerful and completely underexploited.
