By now, all voting members of PRIMA should have received their 2010 election ballot by mail. Please take a moment to complete the ballot and return it in the postage paid envelope provided. FBI arrests man for threatening Pelosi

The FBI arrested a northern California man for allegedly making threatening phone calls to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi over health care reform, law enforcement officials told The Associated Press. Charges against the man have yet to be disclosed, but they are expected to be filed in federal court in California. More

New law could force schools to allow guns on campus

A bill that passed the Kansas House of Representatives on March 24, would allow individuals with a conceal-carry license to bring firearms on college campuses, despite being opposed by school administrators. House Bill 2685, which passed 65 to 57 and is currently before the Senate, would force schools to allow guns on campus unless there were "adequate security measures to ensure that no weapons are permitted to be carried into or on such premises or facilities," according to the bill language. Screening for jailed immigrants criticized

A federal program to screen for illegal immigrants in local jails lacks oversight and is not targeting the most serious offenders, according to a highly critical U.S. Department of Homeland Security report. The report by the DHS Inspector General's Office also concluded that 287(g) does not adequately collect data to address civil rights violations and was inconsistently enforced in various jurisdictions. The investigation found that some law enforcement agencies are not following the program's requirements, including identifying and removing illegal immigrants "who pose a threat to public safety or a danger to the community." Auditorium alcohol request on hold pending liquor liability legal research

A request to use the city auditorium for a wedding reception serving alcohol was put on hold by the McCook City Council in Nebraska at the regular meeting. By a unanimous vote, with Mayor Dennis Berry absent, the council voted to take up the item at the next council meeting April 19, so liquor liability issues could be cleared up. More
