Illinois' financial condition continued to deteriorate in fiscal 2011, leaving it the state with the lowest level of net assets in the country, as its liabilities, including money owed for public pensions, grew, according to a report released recently by the state's auditor general. More

Judge backs liability cap in ballpark lawsuit

A District Court judge has upheld a state law limiting how much Montana cities will have to pay in lawsuits, rejecting an argument by a Helena woman that the cap is unconstitutional. Ruth M. Fisher sued the city this winter over the death of her husband, Wayne A. Fisher, who fell from the stands at Kindrick Legion Field through netting onto dugout steps on June 16, 2011. He died 12 days later at age 78. More
