Pittsburgh to pay $75,000 in student's beating case, lawsuit against officers proceeding

The Pittsburgh City Council has approved a $75,000 partial settlement with a former black high school arts student who says he was beaten by three white undercover officers. Jordan Miles is still suing the officers who arrested him in January 2010, but the partial settlement releases city officials from liability. However, Miles' attorney, J. Kerrington Lewis, says the city has agreed to pay any future judgments against the officers. More

Retrial ordered on issue of city's liability for $1.85 million verdict in fatal police shooting

Oklahoma House panel votes to close daycare insurance loophole

An Oklahoma House of Representatives committee has voted to close a loophole in state law, ensuring that all daycare facilities have liability insurance. House Bill 1848, by state Rep. Mike Shelton, eliminates an exemption that allowed home-based daycare facilities to operate without liability insurance. More
