Increased St. Louis City Fire rating causes spike in residents' insurance

The ISO rating for the St. Louis City Fire District is higher than it should be which is forcing resident's homeowners insurance to rise. The city received a two instead of a one meaning higher rates for city residents. The rating is given based on things like water supply and how quickly the department responds to emergencies.

Municipal workers 'beg' Houston to lower health insurance cost

For rank and file municipal workers it was the deepest kind of cut — the kind that clips hard at a paycheck and cleans out savings. In February, Houston Mayor Annise Parker lifted health insurance premiums by nearly 15 percent and drastically raised co-pays and deductibles across the board. Five months later, city employees are struggling to meet their medical costs.

Rebuilding the Granite Mountain Hotshots team could make Prescott uninsurable, a city official said recently. Prescott, which is now insured through a pool that covers many smaller Arizona municipalities, already faces an almost-certain increase in insurance premiums because of the cost of paying out benefits to the families of the firefighters who died in the Yarnell Hill Fire.

Liability concerns raised about Park Ridge, Ill., police doing charity plane pull

A 20-member team from the Park Ridge Police Department, near Chicago, planned to compete in a "plane pull" Sept. 21 at O'Hare International Airport to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics Illinois, but Mayor David Schmidt has concerns that may force them to pull out.
