In late 1938 and early 1939, having just become independent from the Canadian Army, the Royal Canadian Air Force received approval from the Federal Cabinet through orders-in-councils to restrict enlistment in the RCAF to those of European origin — in other words, persons whose skin was white.
The RCAF regulations were not, however, complete. While officers in both the Permanent (regular) Force and the Non-Permanent Force had to be white, the same restriction was only applied to airmen of the Permanent Force. The reasons for this discrepancy have not been determined.

High and to the right, four yellow aircraft in Goose Formation dive from 1,800 feet towards centre stage and pull into a loop, their nine-foot Hamilton Standard props producing a distinctive roar.
Halfway through the loop, the team transitions to Diamond Formation. A quick dumbbell turn and the team is back at centre stage for a Diamond Barrel Roll. A series of loops, rolls and tail-chases leaves the sky filled with smoke. A crowd favourite is a heart drawn in the sky and pierced by an arrow. For 11 minutes, the audience is dazzled by sound, smoke and low-level precision aerobatics.

Boeing may express interest in a jet fighter competition in Canada despite a recent trade row, but is still studying the matter, a senior executive said recently.

A German historical research group is hoping someone in Nova Scotia can help them track down descendants of Royal Canadian Air Force members who died when their plane went down in Germany 73 years ago, during the Second World War.
One of the crew members was Flying Officer Reginald Bertram Smith of Sydney. He was one of seven crew members of a 408 Squadron Halifax bomber that crashed on the night of Feb. 21, 1945, near Leistadt, about 100 kilometres southwest of Frankfurt.
