With the Iraq mission pretty much at a standstill because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Canadian Forces has pulled its helicopters and associated air crews from the country.

Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan said that he recently spoke to the family of Capt. Jennifer Casey, who was killed when the CT-114 Tutor aircraft she was riding in suddenly fell into a residential neighbourhood shortly after taking off from Kamloops Airport on Sunday.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, U.S. and Canadian members from the Continental U.S. North American Aerospace Defense Command Region are supporting homeland defense operations at the Joint Air Defense Operations Center in the National Capital Region.
“The men and women of NORAD have the watch,” said U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Marc Sasseville, commander, NORAD’s Continental U.S. Region. “From fighter, tanker, and rotary wing units sitting alert, to ground-based air defense, to command and control...we remain vigilant and dedicated to performing our no fail homeland defense mission.”

Lieutenant Colonel Maryse Carmichael unveiled a new memorial stone in the village on Sunday 28 October, to commemorate the founding of 431 Squadron at the village’s World War Two airfield exactly 70 years previously.

A Cyclone helicopter was flying close to a Canadian frigate for a photo shoot and was getting ready for a landing when it crashed into the sea off the coast of Greece, the Canadian military confirmed recently.
This newspaper reported on May 11 that a number of serving Canadian Forces personnel stated the Cyclone was conducting a high-speed, low altitude pass near HMCS Fredericton when the crash happened.
