Transport Canada is committed to enhancing the safety and security of Canadians while fostering innovation as it continues to explore the use of unmanned aircraft systems, commonly known as drones, to fulfil its mandate.
The Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, has granted the UAS Centre of Excellence approval to begin operations at their test range in Alma, QC. This test range facilitates research and development and provides the industry with dedicated, restricted airspace where they can test drones beyond visual line-of-sight.

Bombardier is betting on its Global 6000 for the U.S. Air Force's JSTARS and Compass Call programs, but that doesn't mean the model will be its offering for other upcoming U.S. special mission aircraft requirements, the company's vice president of specialized aircraft said recently.
"The Global 6000 is a great platform because of its physical attributes, because of its performance," said Stéphane Villeneuve, Bombardier's vice president of specialized aircraft told Defense News during an interview at the Paris Air Show.

The Air Force now believes a rash of the incidents among F-35 pilots at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona might have been caused by a metering problem in the aircraft's oxygen system that occurs above 25,000 feet, Chief of Staff Gen. David Goldfein said recently.
Flight operations at Luke resumed after an 11-day grounding, but the Air Force is still investigating the oxygen systems with a team of experts at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio.

A Marine Corps F-35 squadron is back flying after software glitches grounded planes at Yuma Air Station in Arizona for a day.
Flight operations for F-35Bs used by Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 211 were suspended Thursday because of "anomalies" caused by a recent update of the aircraft's Autonomic Logistics Information System, which is used for critical functions such as maintaining the jet and mission planning.
