A Royal Canadian Air Force officer represented Canada at the prestigious Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, held at at Edinburgh Castle, Scotland, from August 3 to 25, 2018. Captain Fraser Clark was invited to perform at the world’s premier military Tattoo, held this year in honour of the Royal Air Force’s 100th anniversary.

Members of the Royal Canadian Air Force’s 424 Transport and Rescue Squadron from 8 Wing Trenton, Ontario, came to the aid of a boater, whose 25-foot sailboat had capsized two miles south of Dorval, Quebec, on September 17, 2018
Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Trenton was advised of a Personal Locator Beacon activation in the St. Lawrence River and a CH-146 Griffon helicopter crew was launched to investigate.

Les membres du 424e Escadron de transport et de sauvetage de l’Aviation royale canadienne, base à la 8e Escadre Trenton (Ontario), sont venus au secours d’un plaisancier dont le voilier de 25 pieds avait chaviré, à trois kilomètres au sud de Dorval, au Québec, le 17 septembre 2018.
Le Centre conjoint de coordination des opérations de sauvetage — Trenton a été avisé de l’activation d’une radiobalise individuelle de repérage dans le St-Laurent et un hélicoptère CH-146 Griffon et son équipage a été affecté à la recherché.

The Royal Canadian Air Force is contending with a shortage of around 275 pilots and needs more mechanics, sensor operators and other trained personnel as well in the face of increasing demands to conduct and support domestic and international missions.
The Air Force says it is working to address the deficiencies and that they have not negatively impacted operations.

The U.S. Air Force has determined it will need a nearly 25 per cent boost in combat squadrons in order to support a major war with another great power such as China or Russia, signaling the largest potential increase in air power for the United States since the end of the Cold War.
Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson said the service wants to grow to 386 operational squadrons by around 2025-2030, compared with the 312 it has today. The rise would support Defense Secretary James Mattis’s shift in focus from the fight against terrorism in the Middle East to potential conflicts with near-peer competitors.

The Sea King retirement celebrations involve a meet and greet 30 November 2018, followed by a parade, flypast and gala dinner on 1 December — all events happening in the Victoria area as that si where the last RCAF Sea Kings will be flown.
