Maintaining the North Warning System

Like quiet sentries keeping watch throughout a harsh and unforgiving terrain, the 50 radars of the North Warning System (NWS) dot North America’s high Arctic coastline. Comprising both long- and short-range radar sites, the NWS extends from the southern coast of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, to the North Slope of Alaska, US, with 47 of the 50 radar sites located in Canada.

Quarante-sept des 50 sites radar se trouvent au Canada.

Sergeant Yves Desfossés, RCAF Reservist of the Year

July 16th, 2020, marked a significant day in the career of Sergeant Yves Desfossés for he was presented the Flight Lieutenant D.M. Grant, Memorial Trophy for Air Reservist of the Year. The Royal Canadian Airforce (RCAF) Association established this award to recognize one individual each year who best represents the Reserve Component of the RCAF.

Le 16 juillet 2020 a marqué un jour important dans la carrière du sergent Yves Desfossés, puisqu’il a reçu le trophée commémoratif du lieutenant d’aviation D. M. Grant en tant que réserviste aérien de l’année. L’Association de l’Aviation royale canadienne (ARC) a créé ce prix afin de récompenser tous les ans une personne qui représente le mieux la Réserve de l’ARC.

New RCAF search and rescue aircraft to be named 'Kingfisher'

The Royal Canadian Air Force has finally settled on a name for its new fixed-wing search and rescue fleet. The first of the planes from Airbus arrived in Comox, B.C., on Friday. The new fleet will be called Kingfisher, according to the RCAF.

Polar bear damages RCAF search and rescue chopper

Chalk it up to the perils of parking overnight on the tarmac of a northern airfield in Canada.
A CH-149 Cormorant search and rescue helicopter was damaged earlier this month by what appears to have been a puzzled polar bear.
