A time capsule opened recently in Saskatoon gave a look back 25 years, though Mother Nature hadn't been kind to all of the items that had been stowed there.
The capsule was sealed on Sept. 11, 1991, adjacent to the cairn in RCAF Park on Avenue C N. Veterans, Canadian Armed Forces personnel, the Royal Canadian Legion and others had placed items inside. "We had a list, but it wasn't quite complete," explained Cory O'Donnell, president of RCAF in Saskatoon. "Stuff had been added to the list afterwards. So we weren't fully sure what was in there."

Air force crews from three Commonwealth countries took careful aim at this wind swept airfield recently.
Three C-130J Hercules aircraft from the Royal Australian Air Force, Royal Air Force and Royal Canadian Air Force approached from the east, flying at about 650 feet.
MWO Ross Prophet says the idea is to simulate the resupply of supplies to soldiers in a "hot zone."
"This is the way for the air force to get what the army needs on the ground in a quick way," said Prophet.

On a hot August day in Ottawa's west end, construction crews are banishing the ghosts of Nortel Networks.
In what used to be Lab 8 — one of more than a dozen interconnected facilities — skilled trades are busy securing doorways, installing floor-to-ceiling windows, and upgrading the wiring. The soft whirring of power drills echoes throughout the atrium. A layer of dust settles on flooring that's covered with protective plywood. It's a remarkable contrast from the past few years, when Lab 8 — a former hub for wireless R&D — sat mostly silent.
There is urgency now.

C-130 Hercules aircraft crews from Australia, Canada, New Zealand and United Kingdom trained and engaged in friendly competition in the skies last week during Exercise Bullseye.
The tactical air transport exercise — at 8 Wing, Mountain View and Petawawa — provided members of the Royal Air Force, Royal Australian Air Force, Royal New Zealand Air Force (as observers) and the Royal Canadian Air Force a collaborative learning opportunity for tactical operations.
The exercise culminated recently with a tactical air training portion, where participating nations attempted to hit the "bullseye" with a parachute-rigged cargo box. The Royal Canadian Air Force, which was closest to the mark, took home the Exercise Bullseye trophy.

After serving his country in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War, Oshawa resident Donald Munroe never flew a plane again until recently when the 98-year-old had the opportunity to soar in a vintage Tiger Moth plane, the type he piloted as a young airman.
The opportunity came as a result of Wish of a Lifetime, a charity started by Chartwell Retirement Residences to grant seniors' dreams and wishes. Munroe's daughter nominated him for the chance and the charity arranged for the flight at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum near Hamilton.
