Hanover native named to Royal Canadian Air Force demonstration team

A Hanover native has been named to the Royal Canadian Air Force's CF-18 demonstration team.
Adam Runge will fly a specially painted CF-18 commemorating the 90th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force through 2014.
In a Government of Canada release, Runge says he first saw the Snowbirds when he was nine years old, and that got him hooked on flying.

RCAF kicks off Serpentex 2013

The Royal Canadian Air Force kicked off its participation in Serpentex 2013 with its first two missions, from the Solenzara Air Force Base in France.
Over the Diane Range, CF-18 Hornets from 4 Wing Alberta, dropped training bombs and fired rounds on multiple targets during a close air support mission, which tested their ability to integrate with joint terminal attack controllers from both the Canadian Army and participating nations.
NORAD air training taking place over Labrador, Nova Scotia

In a recent news release, Major-General Pierre St-Amand, commander, of one Canadian Air Division and the Canadian NORAD region, said "The RCAF is proud to stand on guard for all Canadians as a partner in NORAD. Through carefully-planned and closely-controlled training, the RCAF ensures our commitment to NORAD rapid response capabilities in the event of a domestic air threat."

Allison Groten is a proud mother.
She's just grateful she learned the details of her son's heroism after the fact.
Jonathan Groten grew up in the Clear Lake area, but family roots and tradition has taken his aspirations further North.
Groten follows his great-grandfather and father to the Royal Canadian Air Force, and recently, he was part of a crew, Rescue 912, involved in a search and rescue mission that earned them the Prince Phillip Helicopter Award.
Bazalgette highlighted in tribute to Canadian airmen

Nanton's Dave Birrell travelled to London, U.K., recently to speak at the opening of a new exhibit featuring Ian Bazalgette. A special exhibition featuring Bazalgette opened at the Canadian High Commission Building in Trafalgar Square.
Bazalgette was the only Albertan to be awarded the Victoria Cross during the Second World War. Nanton's Lancaster Bomber was dedicated to Bazalgette in 1990, and members of the Bomber Command Museum of Canada have worked to ensure that Bazelgette's memory continues.

Meet the Canadian pilot who protects Washington's skies

Capt. Jeffery Powell is a pilot with the Royal Canadian Air Force, but currently has a high-pressure job in America: protecting the skies over the White House and the nation’s capital.
The 40-year-old helicopter pilot is part of a three-year exchange program with the U.S. Coast Guard and under the direction of NORAD Powell helps keep the airspace above Washington free of threats.
