The Canadian Armed Forces gave a final salute to the CH-124 Sea King maritime helicopter, marking its more than five decades of service, in a parade held in Victoria, British Columbia.
The Sea King will officially retire from service by December 31, 2018 as the RCAF completes its transition to the new CH-148 Cyclone maritime helicopter.

Lors d’un défilé tenu aujourd’hui à Victoria, en Colombie-Britannique, les Forces armées canadiennes ont rendu un dernier hommage à l’hélicoptère maritime CH-124 Sea King, dont le service s’étale sur plus de cinq décennies.
Le Sea King sera officiellement retiré du service d’ici le 31 décembre 2018, l’ARC ayant amorcé le processus de transition complète au nouvel hélicoptère maritime CH-148 Cyclone.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command is celebrating its 60th anniversary of defending the homeland along with its tradition of tracking Santa’s journey around the globe on December 24.
“In addition to our day-to-day mission of defending North America, we are proud to carry on the tradition of tracking Santa as he travels along his yuletide flight,” said General Terrence O’Shaughnessy, commander NORAD and U.S. Northern Command. “The same radars, satellites and interceptors employed on December 24 are used year-round to protect Canada and the United States.”

« En plus de notre mission quotidienne qui consiste à défendre l’Amérique du Nord, nous sommes fiers de poursuivre la tradition du temps des Fêtes en suivant les déplacements du père Noël pendant sa tournée festive », a affirmé le général Terrence O’Shaughnessy, commandant du NORAD et de l’U.S. Northern Command. « Le 24 décembre, nous suivrons la trajectoire du père Noël à l’aide des mêmes radars, satellites et intercepteurs que ceux utilisés pour protéger le Canada et les États‑Unis. »

The Canadian military is looking to contract out some maintenance work on the country's aging CF-18 fighter jets as well as training to help address a shortage of experienced technicians.
Defence officials recently revealed the plan during a Commons committee meeting, in which they also defended the time needed to pick a new jet for the air force and faced calls to reveal how much it will cost to upgrade the CF-18s' combat systems.
