Canadian aid to Philippines continues

Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) will deploy three CH-146 Griffon helicopters and aircrew to further support the Government of Canada's humanitarian assistance and relief efforts in the Philippines.

RCAF to send scarce search and rescue aircraft to Peru for exercises

The air force is planning to send two Cormorant search-and-rescue helicopters to Peru to take part in exercises next year but some observers wonder whether that makes sense because of the limited availability of such aircraft in Canada.
The Cormorants, one from each coast, would be dismantled and transported on board Royal Canadian Air Force C-17 planes to Peru in April, according to sources.
Flying veterinarian and historian will be missed

The Cariboo lost a great link to the past with the passing of Dr. John Roberts on Nov. 6, 2013.
He died quietly at home sitting in his favourite chair, 10 days after celebrating his 91st birthday.
John was born in Melbourne, Australia on Oct. 27, 1922.
He left high school with a Grade 10 education to join the Australian Armed Forces when the Second World War erupted.

Poppy fund gets Springs boost

Tsawwassen Springs golf course raised over $2,000 for the Royal Canadian Legion's Poppy Fund. The golf course donated $10 from every green fee it collected from Nov. 8, 2013, to Remembrance Day. "It turned out to be pretty successful," said general manager Chris Hood, noting the weather was very good on Remembrance Day.
A total of $2,030 was raised this year. The golf course raised about $1,400 last year with the fundraiser, he said.
Local men receive Alberta Order of Excellence

Two local citizens have been awarded the highest honour a resident of Alberta can receive.
Honorary Captain (N) William H. Wilson, OMM, CStJ, CD of High River, AB, and Captain Douglas Eaglesham, CD of Cayley, have received the Alberta Order of Excellence. They received the honours at The Museum of The Highwood.

The bi-annual Junior Ranks Reunion is held for those who were stationed at RCAF Station St. Hubert - including but not limited to those who worked with the 401 & 438 Reserve Sqn’s, 104 KU, 426 Sqn, ADCHQ, and all other units. Today St. Hubert has so much less activity that we hold our reunion at RCAF Base Trenton. Our 9th bi-annual reunion will be held in the WOs' & SGTs' Mess at 8 Wing Trenton, Ontario between June 20th – 22nd, 2014.
