Dynamic prevalence of sleep disorders following stroke or transient ischemic attack
Stroke Journal
The exact prevalence of sleep disorders following stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) remains unclear. We aimed to determine the prevalence of sleep-disordered breathing, insomnia, periodic leg movement during sleep, and restless leg syndrome following stroke or TIA in acute, subacute, and chronic phases and examine the moderating effects of patient characteristics (eg, age) and methodological features (eg, study quality) on the prevalence.

How to transform the US mental health system
RAND Corporation
The United States is at a time of promise for historic transformation in mental health care. For decades, systemic problems have persisted — including high levels of unmet need, underdevelopment of community-based supports, and inequities in access and quality of care. In 2019, only 45 percent of people with a mental illness received any mental health treatment. This translates to unmet need for more than 30 million Americans.

Transforming mental health care in the US
RAND Corporation
The U.S. mental health system has reached a moment when a historic transformation to address persistent problems appears realistic. These problems include high levels of unmet need for care, underdevelopment of community-based supports that can help avoid unnecessary emergency care or police engagement, and disparities in access and quality of services.

What physical therapists need to know about the 2021 COVID-19 relief bill
WebPT
The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 (CCA), which was signed into law on December 27, 2020, expands certain aspects of the CARES Act. The new law is 5,593 pages and dense with complicated tax and spending provisions that aim to provide aid during the pandemic. That’s a lot of legislation to digest, so I’ve taken the time to summarize the CCA provisions relevant to rehabilitation therapists.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion in physical therapy
APTA
Growing up, whenever Rachel Herron, PT, DPT, walked into a clinic, she noticed everyone around her. As a woman of color, she rarely saw herself reflected in what she saw.
"I didn't see my first brown physical therapist until I got to PT school. Seeing her was like seeing a unicorn," she says. "It changes your sense of safety and comfort. If you see yourself reflected, you feel there's more of a chance you won't be harmed in the experience. Maybe they are less likely to say something offensive, even if it wasn't intentional. It makes a difference."

Busting payment myths, part 8: Wherefore the payment cut?
APTA
Federal and nonfederal third-party payers aren't known for easy-to-understand rules and regulations. Unfortunately, that complexity can lead to misinformation, which can spread quickly. To get everyone on the same page, we're debunking some of the most prevalent myths APTA has seen lately on social media and in other venues. In this installment: the mechanics of the cut to Medicare part B payment in the 2021 physician fee schedule.

Working from home has created new demand for physical therapy
Newsday
Across the country, aching backs, necks and shoulders brought on by COVID-19-related lifestyle changes have sent many people to physical therapists.
In many cases, working from couches, dining tables and kitchen counters is taking a toll on people’s bodies. People are also getting injured when they start new exercise routines because their regular gyms closed, or they no longer want to go to them. And that’s to say nothing of the physical therapy some COVID-19 patients require after they recover.
