South Carolina panel approves bill opposing federal healthcare law

A House panel has advanced a bill declaring South Carolina's opposition to the federal healthcare law. The measure approved 4-2 along party lines would put Republican lawmakers' well-known opposition into state law. It says no state employee could help enforce provisions of the federal law.

APTA to host Virtual Career Fair on April 9

APTA's first-ever online Virtual Career Fair will be held on Tuesday, April 9, from 1 to 4 p.m. EDT. This live, online event is the most efficient and effective way to engage directly with employers about current and future career opportunities. Participants may join the Fair for as long as they wish, chatting one-on-one with employers actively seeking candidates from the physical therapy community. Members should come prepared to discuss their background and experience, share their resume and ask questions of the recruiters. Registration is open and space is limited.

Dr. Karen Jacobs, former president and vice president of the American Occupational Therapy Association, will be leading a unique overseas cultural and professional exchange opportunity in August. People to People Citizen Ambassador Programs is coordinating a delegation of occupational therapy and physical therapy professionals who will travel to San Jose and Arenal, Costa Rica, from August 3-10.
Torn meniscus treatments: Physical therapy just as good as surgery

A new study that compares physical therapy to knee surgery for torn meniscus' finds that therapy can be just as effective, not to mention cheaper. Results were published online in the New England Journal of Medicine and presented at an American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons conference in Chicago.
