Your chapter leadership got immediately back to work for its members. Advocacy continues with SCAPTA actively working on licensure exam requirements, regulatory fixes, and direct access progression. The public relations committee has released the new video promoting the practice of physical therapy and our association available for sharing on social media. Robust discussion occurred during the business meeting with Bylaws voting completed for the year. The delegates are excited about another packed schedule at the APTA House of Delegates in June and requested feedback from all members about any and all of the candidates and proposed RC’s. We are looking for volunteers that have an interest in serving the association in a multitude of positions from committee members to elected positions. If you have an interest, contact us at southcarolina@apta.org. Specifically, we are working on identifying a new association management service and have created a workgroup that needs two additional non-board members to serve. Please email us if you are interested. The estimated date of completion is late summer/early fall with a few conference calls, review of all received proposals, and a recommendation to the SCAPTA Board. Thank you all for your active participation in our association and we welcome your feedback because we are #BetterTogether.

Synthesis of the currently available meta-analyses suggest that caffeine ingestion improves exercise performance in a broad range of exercise tasks. Ergogenic effects of caffeine on muscle endurance, muscle strength, anaerobic power and aerobic endurance were substantiated by moderate quality of evidence coming from moderate-to-high quality systematic reviews.

Women who develop gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) have an elevated lifetime risk of type 2 diabetes
mellitus. Recently, a series of studies has suggested that women with GDM also have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease
(CVD). However, it is unclear if this risk is dependent upon the intercurrent development of type 2 diabetes. Thus, we conducted
a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the impact of GDM on future risk of incident CVD and to ascertain the role of
type 2 diabetes in this regard.

Patient, heal thyself.
Maybe that's not exactly what regenerative medicine is all about, but it's close: with its emphasis on enhancing the body's own genetically driven capabilities to repair damage and reestablish neural connections, regenerative medicine is pushing the boundaries of what we know about the healing capacities hidden in our own DNA. And physical therapists (PTs) are bringing an important perspective and set of unique skills to the field.

Providing all goes as hoped during current state legislative sessions, the Physical Therapy Licensure Compact could pass the halfway mark in its progress toward adoption in every state, with a potential for 28 states to be participating in the system that allows physical therapists (PTs) and physical therapist assistants (PTAs) licensed in 1 compact state to obtain practice privileges in others.

We’ve written a gazillion posts about the importance of selling the value of physical therapy — as well as the value of your specific services. After all, so few of the patients who could benefit from receiving physical therapy are actually receiving it.

You've probably experienced it before: your 40-something patient thinks that after 4 decades of relative physical inactivity, there's no point in starting now.
Tell your patient to think again. A recent study that tracked leisure time physical activity (LTPA) levels of more than 300,000 adults for as long as 46 years concludes that middle-aged adults who take up LTPA for the first time reduce risk of all-cause mortality by nearly as much as adults who've remained active since adolescence.

Sometimes physical therapy doesn't just heal an injury, it changes the course of a patient's life for the better. Colleen Rapp, a press operator for the Denver Post, thought her physically demanding job was exercise enough — until she got a wholistic view of her health status from her physical therapist (PT) after a shoulder injury. Her experience even inspired her to raise funds for doctor of physical therapy students at the University of Colorado.
