Car wash investing: 10 most tragic misconceptions
Auto Laundry News
Each year, Anthony Analetto approached by hundreds of potential new investors looking to start a career in car washing. He understands their attraction to a real-estate business with no inventory. He understands their excitement about an industry not dominated by large chains or franchises. What confuses him, however, is how many of them insist on underestimating the complexity of actually building and running a car wash business. For whatever reason, otherwise savvy business people with no car washing experience suddenly envision themselves installing their own equipment with an enthusiastic attitude of "how hard can it be?" Any industry veteran can tell you that succeeding in this industry requires a level of effort, persistence, and passion few are prepared for.More

As two gas stations offer the lowest prices in town, one detailing shop says its business has suffered, according to Shale Plays Media. The steady stream of customers lining up for the rock-bottom prices have clogged an intersection, blocking Kool Rides auto detailing shop, noted the article. Wet start to 2015 does little to dampen the North Texas drought
Star-Telegram
The wet start to 2015 has been nice, but it has done little to dampen drought concerns for the region. With 1.71 inches falling so far at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, rainfall is actually above normal so far this month. But the rain hasn’t been enough to improve the dry conditions; it has simply put some critical issues on hold as officials wait to see if soaking rains arrive. If they don’t, most of Tarrant County could be looking at once-a-week outdoor watering restrictions in the next two months.More

Professional Carwashing & Detailing
When winter arrives, it's extremely important to recognize the risks and hazards that come with working outside in cold climates. Cold air, water and snow not only draw heat from the body, cold weather also forces the body to work harder to maintain its temperature. Failure to understand or prepare for the winter dangers can pose great risks to those whose jobs keep them outdoors.More

Increase revenue: Your 2015 marketing initiative
Auto Laundry News
Who knew Al Capone had a sense of humor? Always a pragmatist, the notorious gangster displayed a keen insight into basic human behavior. "You can get much further with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone," he noted. Capone’s funny comment contains, I think, a very serious message for operators. Indeed, with only a slight change in his words, savvy car wash operators will benefit enormously by acting upon Capone’s very insightful remark. If Capone were a car wash operator, he might say: "You can get much further with good equipment and a marketing plan than you can with good equipment alone."More

Are you indispensable to your customers?
By Adrian Davis
As you look at your customer base, are there any customers who really can't do without you? If not, you could be in big trouble. Our economy is fragile, and it is no longer sheltered from the unpredictable upheavals overseas. Anything that happens anywhere in the world can cause an economic downturn in North America, resulting in difficult financial challenges for your customers. The easiest way to deal with these challenges is to simply stop paying suppliers. Sometimes that means altogether, and other times, it means delaying payments until cash flow improves. Either way, it means trouble for you.More

Colorado water conservation bill advances
Cortez Journal
State Sen. Ellen Roberts of Durango, Colorado on Jan. 14 found herself at odds with fellow Republicans who opposed a water-conservation bill she is sponsoring. The measure — which would offer free training to local governments on water-conservation practices — still made it out of the Republican-controlled Senate Agriculture, Natural Resources and Energy Committee, thanks to Democrats who joined Roberts in supporting the bill. Roberts is a member of the committee.More
