2 CGMP courses on calendar for summer, fall
SGMP
SGMP recently added two CGMP courses to the schedule. The first will be offered July 14-17 in Vienna, Virgnia, and the second from Oct. 20-23 in Northern Virginia. The Certified Government Meeting Professional designation (CGMP) is designed for planners and suppliers whose work is governed by the rules and regulations of the federal government. To be eligible to take the course, you must be an SGMP member in good standing for six months or be a member with more than one year of experience in the hospitality industry. The cost is $595. More

Survey shows absentee vendors, weather biggest event risks

The biggest risk their events face, according to event professionals, is the failure of vendors and sub-contractors to show up, the International Special Events Society reported. In partnership with specialist insurance provider HCC Specialty, ISES conducted a survey of more than 5,000 event planners to find out what their biggest event-planning concerns are. From a choice of four options, absentee vendors and subcontractors ranked first (47.4 percent), followed by weather (37.1 percent).More

Airline fees mean big bucks for carriers

According to statistics from the Department of Transportation, collectively they raked in $3.6 billion in extra baggage fees in 2014, a 5.3 percent increase from 2013. Delta took in the most money with checked bag fees in 2014 — a whopping $862 million. United and American Airlines were not far behind, collecting $651 million and $574 million, respectively.More
