Shana Kelley Earns 2016 SLAS Innovation Award
From Feb. 3: Shana Kelley of the University of Toronto took home top honors and a $10,000 check for her SLAS2016 scientific presentation, "New Devices for the Detection and Classification of Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria." Kelley described her team's work to develop new electrochemical tools for direct molecular analysis of bacteria — some in less than 30 minutes — and the potential clinical applications of these tools. In addition to the cash award, Kelley receives a one-year SLAS membership, is invited to have her work featured in either JALA or JBS and joins the judging panel for the 2017 SLAS Innovation Award.More

From Aug. 24: For life sciences discovery and technology professionals, working with 3D culture has numerous advantages, including emulation of the in vivo environment; high cell yields from less laboratory space; and a significant reduction in costs of labor and consumables. That's the word from Robin Felder, Ph.D., professor and associate director of clinical chemistry and toxicology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.

From June 22: HTS technologies are increasingly integrated into the formulation development process of biopharmaceuticals. The performance of liquid handling systems is dependent on the ability to deliver accurate and precise volumes of specific reagents to ensure process quality.
A collaborative team from GSK Vaccines (Belgium) and Neomed Institute (Canada) has developed an automated gravimetric calibration procedure to adjust the accuracy and evaluate the precision of the TECAN Freedom EVO liquid handling system.
