Your final opportunity to submit an abstract for the Annual Conference in San Diego is about to close. Late-breaking abstracts must be received no later than 11:59 PM EST THIS SUNDAY, MARCH 1.
Abstracts are welcome in any area of nutrition education, including those that incorporate the conference theme "What Food Future?" Please consider highlighting your innovative program or initiative, or interesting research — we welcome a diversity of issues surrounding nutrition education.

Each year, SNEB accepts applications for a Student Member Representative on its Board of Directors. The role is designed to provide insights and ideas on how to better serve existing student members and increase student participation. The Student Member Representative is a non-voting position and receives no compensation. If you are interested in applying, click here. Applications are due March 1.

The SNEB Nominating Committee is finalizing the slate of candidates and anticipate the election ballot being sent soon. The SNEB election typically occurs in mid-February and the Committee apologizes for the delay while a strong slate of candidates is completed.

Based on member interest, the spring series will focus on the topic of Telling a Research Story: Qualitative Research Design.
The webinars will host nutrition education and health behavior experts who will share their behavioral intervention and program research that uses a variety of study design and methods of application to improve health outcomes in the population.
The series will start with Perceived Benefits and Barriers to Free Summer Meal Participation Among Parents in New York City. This presentation will discuss the development, implementation, and findings of a qualitative study about free summer meal participation in New York City. The utility of conducting qualitative research in this context will be discussed, as well as the challenges encountered.

JNEB is working on a special theme issue on sustainability and editors have put out a call for all journal article types focused on reductions in food loss and waste that involve behavioral changes. A National Science Foundation-sponsored workshop this fall will feature leading computer scientists, engineers and machine learning experts gathering to try to tackle the wicked problem of developing technologies for objective diet assessment.
As the intended end-users of this type of technology, NSF is asking for nutrition educators and researchers to take a brief survey about the type of research questions you wish you could ask in a world where there were no limitations.

Whether it is toast, fruit and a cup of milk, a yogurt parfait with fruit and granola or an egg and cheese burrito, beginning the day with a balanced breakfast is one of the most important steps people can take to live a healthier lifestyle.
This is especially important for kids. Consuming three or more food groups at breakfast ensures children have enough energy to sustain them through lunch.

Tufts University and collaborators are requesting proposals from WIC State Agencies or a consortium of WIC State Agencies (SAs), through April 10 for the USDA/Tufts Telehealth Intervention Strategies for WIC (THIS-WIC) grant opportunity. The grants are meant to develop and/or implement telehealth innovations to enhance nutrition education and breastfeeding support for WIC participants, particularly those who have a hard time getting to WIC clinics (e.g. rural areas).

WHO and UNICEF launched a guidance document last May aimed at providing recommendations to improve the quality of anthropometric data collected in national surveys of children under 5 years old. It was originally only published in English, but is now available in the other five UN languages: French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese and Arabic.
University of California
Childcare providers in California are required to comply with the California Healthy Beverages in Child Care Act. The University of California is offering a free online course in English and Spanish to learn about the latest recommendations for healthy beverages for children and help providers meet the law’s requirements.
