SNEB
Dear members:
Greetings in this wake of a new president for the United States of America. Like any successful campaign, SNEB needs people in great numbers to carry out its mission of promoting effective nutrition education and healthy behavior through research, policy, and practice. SNEB's Board of Directors keep track of all aspects of the Society and this month I'd like to share our membership numbers. As you can see we are consistently gaining members each year. During my year as president though, I am focusing on member recruitment with a goal to reach 1,500 members by August 2017. Below you will read a letter we sent to over 250 Universities and colleges, we encourage you to print the letter posted in our website and submit it to your administrators as a follow-up. In addition, we would like you to know that majority of our new members indicate that they joined SNEB or attended the conference at the recommendation and encouragement by a colleague or friend. So I'm asking you — who in your organization, department or class needs to know about SNEB?
Mary Murimi, PhD, RD
President
SNEB
In October, SNEB sent a letter to 250 U.S. colleges and universities with information about the benefits of SNEB membership, the scope of the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior, and the dates of our 50th anniversary conference. We encourage members working in higher education to connect with their department chair and follow-up on this effort to educate about SNEB and recruit new members. All members can use this template to communicate with their own organizations.

The resolution "Building a nutrition education evidence data base to support policy and planning in developing countries" has been approved by the membership. If you are interested in participating in the work group developing the resolution's action plan, please contact Jane Sherman.

Parents indicated that they used child food preferences, in-the-moment decisions and planned meals when deciding how to feed siblings. Additionally, the majority of parents indicated that they managed picky eating by making one meal or giving some flexibility/leeway to siblings about having other food options. Furthermore, parents endorsed using different feeding practices (e.g., food restriction, portion control, pressure-to-eat, opportunities for healthful eating) with siblings dependent on child weight status or age/developmental stage.

Interview: Television cooking shows are an important resource for home cooks, but when these shows fail to model recommended food safety measures, it may lead to poor practices among consumers. Many parents may be too busy to cook family dinners, but fighting the clock isn't the only reason they turn to microwaveable frozen meals, suggests a study published in the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior. Sure, 57 percent of parents cite lack of time as a reason for purchasing prepackaged processed meals, the study found. But half of them also said they shopped for factory-made food because their family preferred it.
