US plastic bottle recycling rate holds steady at 28.9 percent

U.S. consumers recycled an additional 45 million pounds of plastic in 2011 compared to the previous year, a rise of 1.7 percent to reach over 2.6 billion pounds for the year, according to figures released jointly by the Association of Postconsumer Plastic Recyclers and the American Chemistry Council. The recycling rate for plastic bottles held steady, inching up 0.1 percent to reach 28.9 percent for the year. More
