But, as The Boston Globe pointed out, an air of renewed excitement permeated the aisles of the Las Vegas Convention Center. Why? Manufacturers believe the field is finally gaining traction with consumers, according to the article. Something to think about, especially if you're sitting on an idea similar to French company Netatmo's UV-sensing wristband (the wristband includes a "gemstone" that measures exposure to ultraviolet light, a cause of skin cancer).
Shoppers want emails with personalized product recommendations
Online shoppers want emails featuring merchandise selected based on their own shopping habits, according to according to results from a Listrak-sponsored Harris Interactive survey.
Shoppers are willing to receive more emails if it makes shopping easier for them and they are willing to share information with retailers in order to receive more emails that are relevant to them, according to the survey.
Shoppers are also willing to purchase items if the email has products based on their own shopping habits and preferences, according to the survey.

Charles River Apparel donates 3,000 garments to homeless in charitable campaign
Charles River Apparel has announced that its third annual ‘Tis the Season for Giving charitable campaign donated a total of 3,000 garments to the homeless during the 2013 holiday season. The company invited social media users to become fans of Charles River Apparel on Facebook from Thanksgiving through Dec. 31. Every new "like" on the Sharon, Mass., supplier’s page equaled a new garment for The Bowery Mission, a New York-based organization that has served homeless and hungry New Yorkers since 1879.
Products safety update from Capitol Hill
After Congress passed the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act ("CPSIA") in 2008 and Public Law 112-28 in 2011, the product safety world turned its attention and focus to CPSC regulatory action — and for good reason. Over the past five years, the CPSC has implemented numerous product safety regulations touching upon recalls, testing and certification requirements, lead and phthalate limits in children's products, and the safety of infant products (among many others). But, we must not forget the important role that Congress continues to play in addressing product safety issues and driving the product safety debate.
