Call for proposals for 2013 STC Summit is now open

STC invites you to contribute your ideas, studies, experience, and expertise to the 2013 Technical Communication Summit, the 60th Annual Conference of the Society for Technical Communication. The work you are doing and have done is an important element in the education process, and we invite you to share it with Summit attendees. For more information, including general information about the conference, descriptions of the individual tracks within the education program, descriptions of session formats and required supporting materials, answers to key questions, and a proposal checklist, visit the Call for Proposals website. STC doubles the number of free archived seminars for members

Starting in 2011, STC members received free access to more than 35 archived seminars (audio synched to PowerPoint) as part of their membership. Now that number has doubled, as STC offers 73 free archived seminars to all members. STC members said they wanted more educational offerings, and these archived seminars provide that. The seminars are on a wide variety of topics from some of the top presenters in technical communication and are organized into eight topics. Google reveals index secrets: Charts indexing of your site over time

Google webmaster tools launched Index Status that charts the number of indexed pages for your site over the last year. Google says that this count is accurate and is post-canonicalization. Eye-tracking study claims Facebook mobile model needs a fix

With Facebook currently relying on sponsored story posts in-feed to monetize the smartphone platform, eye-tracking researcher EyeTrackShop says the social network needs a better model if it expects to maintain decent average revenue per user on mobile platforms. According to its tests of how people view the Web, iPad and smartphone versions of Facebook, the user has much less opportunity to view a sponsor's message on the smaller screen. A sponsored story on a phone that falls below the fold on a screen has only a 3-13 percent possibility of being seen by a user. More
