4 factors will influence housing inventory in 2014
Fox Business    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Eager buyers shopping for homes in today's modestly recovered housing markets might be disappointed to discover not many homes are available for sale. This shortage of inventory means homebuyers in some areas have but few — if any — for-sale homes to choose from. Gary Rogers, broker/owner of RE/MAX on the Charles in Waltham says inventory there is "extremely and unusually low" even for mid-winter. Inventory is so low, in fact, that one nearby town recently had zero single-family homes for sale. More

DIY houses in the Internet age: Some assembly required
Texas Public Radio    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
If you can barely swing a hammer, you can still build your own home. Builders at the Maker Faire in New York City proved this point last fall, with something akin to an old-fashioned barn-raising. The event celebrates the do-it-yourself aesthetic, particularly when it comes to digital fabrication and open-source construction plans. Using wooden mallets cut from plywood, a crew of eight banged together the slotted frame of a WikiHouse without a single nail. More

Protecting your receivables by sending preliminary notice
By Nate Budde    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Credit management professionals know that finding some way to secure an extension of credit goes a long way to ensuring payment. A company that routinely secures its receivables is better able to make credit decisions and is able to feel more secure in its extensions of credit. In the construction industry, a powerful way to secure accounts receivable is built directly into the law on every project, through the use of mechanics liens. However, certain steps must be taken for a company to fully avail itself of those protections. More
